Adoptable Westies

Josie

We received an urgent call from our partner shelter asking if we could take in a senior Westie girl whose owner had relinquished her for euthanasia. At 13 years old, Josie suddenly found herself alone at the moment she needed love and care the most.

Josie is facing several health challenges: she has virtually no tear production, resulting in infected eyes; both ears are infected; she has a severe combined yeast and bacterial skin infection; she is anemic; and she has spondylosis, a degenerative spinal condition common in senior dogs that can cause stiffness, discomfort, and reduced mobility. She is exhausted but she is safe now.

And we’re just getting started. If you would like to help with Josie’s care, donations to support her recovery would be greatly appreciated. Every bit helps give this sweet girl the second chance she deserves. Thank you for being part of her journey.

  • While we don’t know the full story behind her owner’s decision, we choose to focus on the positive: the compassion shown by the shelters we work with, who reach out to us in these critical moments.

Because the call came in at rush hour, we made arrangements to pick her up the following morning. Thankfully, Josie spent less than 24 hours at the shelter. In that brief time, the staff immediately began treatment, gave her extra meals, and showered her with kindness.

Upon intake at the shelter, she weighed in at just 11.8 pounds. Our goal is to help her reach a healthy weight with extra meals and weekly weigh-ins.

Like so many dogs when they first arrive, the toll of her previous circumstances is clear. After her first medicated bath and a nourishing meal, she curled up and fell into a deep, peaceful sleep—likely the best rest she’s had in a very long time.

The costs involved in these senior rescues are significant—medications, specialized treatments, diagnostics, nutritious food, pain management, and ongoing care all add up quickly.

Dora

Dora is a delightful senior miniature poodle who proves that age is truly just a number. This sweet girl is spayed, microchipped, and has had her dental done — so she’s all ready to start the next beautiful chapter of her life with a forever family. Dora is a very active senior who loves her daily walks and staying engaged with the world around her. One of her most charming traits? She loves to have long conversations. Dora will happily chat with you about her day, her toys, or any exciting thing just happened outside the window. She’s expressive, funny, and full of opinions — and she expects to be heard. She absolutely adores people and loves everyone she meets. Dora is sassy, a little bossy in the cutest way, and an all-around fun girl who brings joy and laughter wherever she goes. She’s potty trained, loves to play with toys, and makes an excellent snuggle buddy when it’s time to relax. If you’re ready for a loving companion who will make you laugh, talk back to you, snuggle close, and love you with her whole heart — Dora is waiting to meet you.

  • Dora enjoys the company of other dogs and would do wonderfully with a gentle canine sibling, or as an only dog in a home where she gets lots of attention, daily walks, and plenty of love. She thrives on companionship and being part of her person’s everyday life.

As a miniature poodle, Dora is easy to care for and well-mannered for her baths and grooms. She’s a good girl who cooperates nicely and takes it all in stride like the classy lady she is.

Dora is the perfect mix of affectionate, entertaining, and loyal. She’s looking for a home where she can be cherished, included, and adored for the special little soul she is.
